The Partnership
In 2020, the University of Portsmouth and CEG Digital partnered to create Portsmouth Online, a portfolio of flexible learning courses which equip students with valuable skills and knowledge, without interrupting income and career progression. All Portsmouth Online courses are developed and led by university academics. We believe that effective online courses need to have high levels of tuition and support, and central to this is the role of the Online Tutor.
The Course
This exciting new MSc conversion course has been developed to equip students with a wide range of specialist skills in a welcoming, flexible environment. The course content includes the core principles of a range of perspectives within psychology, the ethical and sociocultural issues that are relevant to evaluating theories and research findings, and a range of skills for investigating experiences and behaviours. Students will also have the opportunity to remotely access a range of specialist tools, learn how to carry out empirical studies and master how to analyse, present and evaluate quantitative and qualitative data as well as final research findings.
The Module
This module is the first on the course and aims to provide students with the skills and contexts, both historical and contemporary, to begin their transition into the field of psychology. Through discussion of different perspectives (such as behavioural, cognitive, clinical etc.) that dominate the field, students will develop an understanding of what it means to be a psychologist in current times and the impact psychologists have on our day-to-day lives. This module also aims to equip students with the fundamental skills they’ll need to conduct scientific research within psychology – which they will build on throughout their degree.
